The WEFE nexus recognizes the interconnectedness and interdependencies between water, energy, food, and ecosystems and how changes or disruptions in one aspect can have significant impact on others. It highlights the trade-offs and challenges of managing and balancing the limited availability of water, energy, and food resources, while also considering the conservation and sustainability of ecosystems.
Consideration of WEFE provides a framework for integrated planning and management of its interdependencies, promoting coordinated decision-making, policy coherence and governance across sectors. It also encourages development and adoption of innovative technologies and solutions to enhance resource efficiency, reduce waste, and promote sustainable practices in water, energy, and food systems.
