Circular Water Economy is a critical aspect of water reuse and conservation, both in agricultural and urban water management. Groundwater, which supplies a large share of drinking and irrigation water in both the EU and China, is increasingly under pressure from overuse, pollution, and climate change. Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR)—using treated water to safely replenish underground reserves—offers a practical solution to help restore and protect this vital resource.
Strengthening EU–China cooperation on circular water management and MAR supports shared resilience goals and contributes to key EU objectives under the European Green Deal, Water Framework Directive, and Circular Economy Action Plan.
